Cables are created by physically crossing stitch groups across the needle bed, producing the raised three-dimensional braid structure that defines Aran and fisherman-style knitwear. The technique is used in heritage menswear and womenswear sweaters, heavy outerwear, premium cold-weather accessories and statement knit dresses. Production runs at chunky 3GG to 7GG gauges because the dimensional structure needs yarn weight to hold its braid shape, with the deepest cables produced at 3GG with 100% wool for the most sculpted hand-feel. Honeycomb, rope cable, diamond trellis and moss stitch variants are all available, often combined in a single garment for the layered Aran look. Yarn options include 100% wool for traditional hand-feel, heavy cotton for warmer climate interpretations, and cashmere blend for premium positioning.
