Brushed Fleece

Mechanical surface brushing after knitting to produce a plush, velvety hand-feel inside heavy sweatshirts and hoodies. The technique takes a standard loop-terry or jersey-knit fabric and runs it through a brushing machine that pulls fine fibres from the yarn surface to create a dense, soft pile. Single-sided brushing keeps the outer face smooth and clean for screen-printing, embroidery or heat-transfer logos, while double-sided polar fleece creates a fully insulating fabric for loungewear and outerwear linings. The brushing depth is calibrated for each yarn blend to avoid fibre breakage and to prevent surface pilling after repeated home wash cycles — a calibration that depends on the specific yarn composition, twist level and stitch density. Production gauges run 3GG to 12GG, with heavyweight cotton and cotton-poly blends as the standard yarn choices for cold-weather applications. The technique is used across heavyweight hoodies, sweatshirts, joggers, fleece jackets and the brushed interior of premium outerwear.
