Custom Knitted Doll & Plush Toy Sweater
A 9.5 cm sweater knitted at the same 13-colour jacquard standard as our full-size pieces — the smallest order unit in the factory, and the one that lands in gift-with-purchase boxes.
This is the smallest thing we knit, and it is not a toy-grade afterthought. The body measures roughly 9.5 cm across and 6 cm long, which leaves very few stitches to work with: a full-size 7GG sweater gives the puncher hundreds of needles to draw a reindeer on, while a 9.5 cm piece gives a fraction of that. So the motif has to be redrawn for the scale rather than shrunk — a snowman that works on a 55 cm sweater loses its face entirely at doll size, and the tree, reindeer, candy cane and duck-face designs in these photographs are all redrawn to survive eleven or thirteen stitches of width. That redraw is the whole service, and it is why a doll sweater from a knit factory looks different from the same motif bought as a printed or bonded patch. Three techniques carry this product: the motif is knitted in as jacquard colourwork so the reverse is clean and the colour cannot peel; satin-stitch embroidery adds the gold star, the eyes and any metallic detail that jacquard cannot hold; and the collar, cuffs and hem are 2x2 rib knitted at a tighter density than the body so the neckline survives being pulled on and off a plush toy a hundred times. That last point is where cheap doll knits fail — a soft rib that relaxes after a few wears leaves the sweater sliding off the shoulders. Scale changes the economics and the risks in ways buyers do not expect. Yarn consumption per piece is tiny, so the cost sits in programming, embroidery time and handling rather than material; eight colourways of the same silhouette cost almost nothing more in yarn but eight times the programming. Embroidery density has to be re-tuned down at this size, because a stitch count that reads as rich on a sweater makes a 2 cm motif stiff as cardboard. Anything a child can pull off is a safety question, so we knit eyes and faces rather than attaching beads or buttons, and we do not use loose pom-poms on toy-scale pieces unless the buyer specifies a tested attachment. Sizing works best when you send the toy rather than a number: the chest circumference, the body length from neck to tail, and the leg opening position decide whether the piece goes on easily, and a pattern graded for one plush body will not fit another even at the same height. Send an existing garment that fits, or a paper pattern, and we will recreate the block before colour is discussed. Typical buyers are plush-toy brands outfitting their own characters, gift-with-purchase and advent-calendar programmes, heritage doll lines running annual outfit refreshes, and retailers adding a low-ticket knit add-on beside a full-size sweater range. The pieces in these photographs are sample programmes, not a fixed catalogue: the motifs show the range of what can be knitted at this scale, and your own artwork replaces all of it. MOQ 100 pcs per design (colourways of one silhouette count separately because each is its own programme), sampling 72 hours from yarn stock confirmation, bulk production 2–3 weeks after PPS approval, DDP door-to-door to US, EU, UK, AU and JP.
