Fair Isle

Traditional geometric pattern bands across yoke, chest, and hem — a timeless cold-weather staple for premium knitwear brands. The technique uses two-colour jacquard per row to build traditional Nordic geometric motifs, with the pattern floats carried discreetly behind the knit on the inside of the garment. Each row carries a different colour pairing, which is why a traditional Fair Isle sweater can display what looks like eight or ten colours while the machine is only juggling two at a time. The technique is widely used on heritage winter sweaters, Nordic-inspired resort wear, and premium cold-weather accessories like hats and gloves. Our gauges run from 5GG to 14GG depending on the fineness of the motif repeat, with lambswool and Shetland wool as the heritage yarn choices and acrylic-wool blends for accessible price-point ranges. We support up to 13 colours across a multi-band garment when combined with multi-colour jacquard, letting buyers carry traditional Fair Isle patterns into complex brand-driven designs.
