Custom Jacquard Pom-Pom Beanie

A pom-pom beanie looks like the simplest thing on a knitwear floor and is actually the piece where one-size-fits-most is hardest to hold. This one is knitted at 7GG on a single-size block that has to sit on a 54 cm head and a 60 cm head without either sliding up or leaving a mark across the forehead — the fit comes from the rib cuff rather than the crown, which means the cuff has to be knitted at a tighter stitch density than the body so it grips instead of relaxing after ten wears. The body is a double-layer jacquard, two faces knitted and joined in one programme, and that is what makes it windproof and thermal without the bulk of a lining. Double-layer jacquard is also where cheap beanies fail: if the floats between the two faces are not locked at intervals, the inner face catches hair and the crown distorts on the first wash. We lock the floats on a fixed interval right across the motif. The reference artwork is a Nordic programme — stylised fir trees on one colourway and a running reindeer band on the other, separated by a two-colour stripe band above the cuff. At 7GG a reindeer's legs are two to three stitches wide, so leg definition is the first thing that degrades when artwork is rescaled, which is why we redraw to the knit grid at roughly 40 stitches across the crown instead of shrinking a vector file. Every colour is Pantone-matched before bulk: the reference runs 19-4024 Navy, 19-1763 Red, 11-0601 White and 14-4102 Light Grey, with 100+ yarn colours available. The pom is where the commercial decisions actually sit. Three attachments are stocked — a matching yarn pom, a faux-fur pom, and a removable snap-button pom. The snap version is the retail-friendly one, because the pom comes off for washing and it removes the small-parts question entirely on kids' lines, but it only survives if the snap is set on a reinforced washer under the crown; without that it tears through inside a season. Standard yarn is 100% acrylic at 7GG with anti-pilling and colourfast finishing, with cotton-acrylic, merino and cashmere-blend upgrades available. Private woven labels can be centre fold, end fold or sew-on. Packing is 100 pieces per carton at 60 x 40 x 40 cm, N.W. 9.5 kg, in retail-ready polybags or on header cards.
