Custom Novelty Christmas Jacquard Jumper

A novelty Christmas jumper is easy to knit and hard to knit well, and the difference shows up in two places that have nothing to do with the artwork. The first is lettering. At 12GG one stitch is 2.1 mm, so a letter stem has to be at least two stitches wide and the x-height at least nine courses tall, or the yarn bridges across the counters and a slogan arrives as a solid stripe. We redraw every letter band on the stitch grid, proof it on a 30 cm knit test in the real yarn, and judge it from 1.5 m — the distance a shop floor is actually viewed from — before anything goes near bulk. The second is the reverse. A figure row in six yarns leaves floats behind the panel, and a float longer than five needles catches on a cuff or a ring and pulls a hole. Long floats here are woven in behind every fourth course, so the inside stays flat, the garment hangs straight and nothing snags. The front panel is built as eight horizontal bands — yoke, figure row, three letter bands, candy garland, holly, flake row — knitted continuously across body and sleeves, which is why the pattern lines up at the armhole instead of being cut and matched afterwards. Colour separation holds six yarns as standard and up to thirteen if your artwork needs them, all reactive dyed and tested to grade 4.5 for wash fastness, because a bright red figure on a black ground is exactly where a cheap dye bleeds. Motifs, lettering, palette, main label, care label, hang tag, poly bag and carton are all yours: send artwork, a reference photo or a hand sketch and a stitch chart with full colour separation comes back in 48 hours.
