Thermo-Chromatic Yarn
Innovative reactive yarn that shifts hue with body temperature.
Micro-encapsulated temperature-sensitive yarn that shifts color with warmth (touch, body heat, or ambient temperature). The yarn contains micro-capsules of colour-changing pigment that reversibly transition hue when heated above an activation threshold and revert when cooled. Common dual-tone shifts are deep black to vibrant red, navy to bright orange, grey to hot pink and forest green to yellow. The activation temperature is calibrated per SKU — typical calibrations are 28°C, 31°C and 35°C — so the colour change triggers reliably under normal wear conditions without flickering from incidental body heat. The yarn is wash-durable through 50+ cold-water cycles when cared for properly (under 30°C, hung to dry, away from direct scorching heat). Production runs 7GG to 12GG, with a longer 3–4 week bulk production lead time than our standard knitwear because the specialty yarn must be batch-tested for activation threshold before knitting begins. Typical buyers are technology-meets-fashion streetwear labels, novelty holiday drops, music merchandise programs, and brand campaigns built around the colour-change reveal moment.
Specialty functional yarn requires temperature-controlled knitting friction and batch pre-testing to calibrate the exact color change threshold (e.g. 28°C / 31°C).
