Cut-Resistant Knit

High-density knitted structures built on HPPE (ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene) core-spun yarn, developed for slash-resistant and abrasion-heavy applications — arm guards, sleeve liners, protective panels, bag inserts and safety-apparel overlays. The protection mechanism is structural rather than coated: a very fine HPPE core carries the cut strength while a nylon or polyester wrapper provides dye affinity and a wearable hand-feel, and the knit itself is programmed at an unusually tight density — reduced loop length, high cam pressure and low yarn relaxation — so there is simply very little open space for a blade edge to catch a loop. The sample programme behind this page was knitted on our Shima Seiki flat machines at fine gauges, and the same construction logic scales across 7GG to 14GG depending on the stiffness and drape the end use demands. Knitting HPPE is a different discipline from knitting fashion yarns. The fibre is highly abrasive against needles and sinkers, machine speeds run materially slower, and the density window is narrow: knit too loose and the structure loses its cut-shedding geometry, knit too tight and the yarn shears or the needles flag. Yarn cost runs several multiples of ordinary synthetic blends, and every batch is knit-tested on a swatch frame before the programme is loaded because dye-lot variation in the wrapper changes friction behaviour. What we are deliberately careful about is certification. The workshop demonstration behind our sample images is an informal in-house test, not a rating, and we do not quote a cut level, a Newton figure or an EN 388 / ISO 13997 grade until third-party laboratory results exist for the exact fabric construction. What we offer buyers is the development route: we sample the structure to your target weight and stiffness, submit it to an accredited test house for the standard your market requires — EN 388 in Europe, ANSI/ISEA 105 in North America, GB 24541 in China — and the certificate attaches to that construction, not to our factory in general. This sequencing protects both sides. Buyers who arrive with a certified competitor swatch can brief us against it; we replicate the density and weight first, then test, and only then quote for production. It is a slower first conversation than quoting from a catalogue, but it is the only way a protective-knit programme survives its first audit. Typical buyers are PPE brands extending into knit segments, workwear labels needing slash protection in specific zones of otherwise conventional garments, and industrial equipment programmes where sleeves and panels take repeated contact. Because the structure is knitted to shape on the flat machine, protective zones can be placed exactly where the risk map says — cuffs, forearms, torso panels — without cutting and sewing woven aramid panels, so the garment keeps stretch, eliminates seam gaps in the protected area and sheds far less fibre in the wash.
